Tokyo Game Show 2009

As you may already know, the Tokyo Game Show was September 24th to the 26th. 2 weeks ago?! And I am now just getting around to writing about it!? Lame! What do I have to report that is soooo ground breaking 2 weeks later? Oh I bet that Sega DreamCast system will be a smash! I should just take my Play Station One and go home…

The Tokyo Game show is the largest video game convention in Japan.  Many of the big names were there revealing upcoming projects coming out next year or conveniently at the holiday season. Who was there?

Tokyo Game Show Crowd

Tokyo Game Show Welcome

Aside from the Otaku international population bottle necking the gates…

Capcom had a huge showing with a trailer theater, game sampling area, and a live stage with a cute hostess interviewing producers for the upcoming titles.

The cute Capcom girl

Some of the things to look out from Capcom this year is; Lost Planet 2, Biohazard (Resident Evil) The Darkside Chronicals, Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition, Ghost Trick, Basara 3, and Last Ranker, RockMan (MegaMan) Battle networks and Starforce rerelease.

RockMan is Back!

Now I love me my RockMan (MegaMan), and I actually liked Battle networks (Who couldn’t enjoy the catchy catch phrase “RockMan.exe … Jack In!!!”). When I saw the Capcom stage populated by real live Rockmen, I had a fan boy moment.

All the Megamen and white labcoats!

Battle Networks

And Star Force

Team up!

But that was small news. The jewel for Capcom’s crown this year was the anticipated new installment in the Biohazard franchise, The Darkside Chronicles.

The Darkside Chronicals

And I see why it is, It centers around Leon S. Kennedy and his history with the T-Virus. (Think what you want Kaily!)

Leon and Jack, before Jack is a psycho.

Chronologically part of the game will take place before Biohazard 4 and part during Biohazard 2, while still covering undiscovered grounds. The Game is a first person arcade style shooter on the Nintendo Wii. The Darkside Chronicles featuring three games.

Relive Raccoon City, or go to South America

Relive the horror of Raccoon city with Ada (<3) or Claire, or you can explore South America and get some back story on Jack Krauser.

Biohazard 5 Alternative edition look intriguing.

BioHazard 5 Alternative edition

I wonder how they story will be different and if there will be an alternative storyline shooting out from it like Star Trek 2009. It appears that Biohazard fever (T-Virus) is fast spreading!

I want this shirt, but not the virus.

Ubisoft has a more modest set up than Capcom, but the games they brought looked solid. To name them; Avatar the game, Red Steel 2, Rabbids Go Home, Assassin’s Creed 2…

Assassin's Creed 2. Kill guys in porcelain party masks

…And Splinter Cell Conviction. That’s right! Splinter cell is back! Staring…. An unshaved Jack Bauer?

Sam Fisher

Jack Bauer!

I love the sneaky sneek games with the unshaved dudes with the guns stopping the nukes. So that leads us to…

Naked Snake

SNAKE!!!

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace walker, for the PSP.

I love sneaking behind wood crates!

Adjacent to Konami was Square Enix who was no slouch. They pumped out three new Final Fantasy titles. XIII for PS3, XIV On-line, and Chrystal Bearers. With all these titles coming out I hope they don’t get to formulaic.

FF 13

Let’s meet the line up for Final Fantasy XIII!

Oh yeah, looks like an all-star cast!

Generic Female hero, Catholic Schoolgirl, Axle Rose, Billy Dee Williams (Pirate Version), and more!

So along with Rockman Battle networks and Star force, some other games are being rereleased.

After 15 years, this game is still awesome!

Tales of Phantasia coming out for Dokomo cell phones.

Dumb Nash and his lightning robot armor

Lunar: Harmony of the Silver Star will be out for PSP (stupid Nash).

Many others showed up but Biohazard The Darkside Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Final Fantasy XIII seem to be the big titles. Overall the Tokyo Game Show was a huge (and germo/claustrophobic) good time! Getting to wait in line for at least 30 minutes was part of the fun as you saw some awesome cosplay shuffle by, or as a majority of the hardcore gamers did, just bust out the DS and shun the outside world. And by the way I am thinking of updating my PlayStation One to something a bit more… interactive…

Oh yeah, let me press her buttons.

Parking Fail. Wakaba Mark Win

I caught this fail while I was walking back from the store. But I guess it’s Okay because he has a wakaba mark.

Puppy Tech Hotline Cartoon and LOL Dogs!

I finally posted one of my “newest” cartoons. The “Puppy Tech Hotline Part 1.” This was inspired when I was working tech support in a hospital. I was looking though my emails and answering the phone. Well some chuckle-head sent me the most adorable email montage of dogs in Halloween costumes. (Eeeeeeehhhhhhh!!!) On the phone was the clinic manager, and I was so thrilled to see photos of dogs suffering though force personification, I almost talked ‘puppy talk’ to the manager. Close call… enjoy the cartoon. And as a bonus I am including the LOLdogs and cats I made for the cartoon in this post. You’re welcome, interwebs.

Kura Sushi Restaurant Review

Sushi, so we meet again. Sushi has been the butt of many Western negative concepts of Eastern food. “Hey, you forgot to cook this” “We call that bait where I’m from.” And the most frustrating conversation I get is “It’s disgusting.” Which I query, “have you ever tried it?” “Uhh, No.” If you are one of these people go back to your Budweiser and Hot Pockets.

For good and cheap sushi I hit up Kura Sushi located along the Eastern water front on the outskirts of Yokosuka down by PC Depot and across the street from The Red Lobster. The best part about this place is the massive variety and the price (most plates are 105 Yen).

Here is the front door, facing away from the main highway.

Kura 1

So I came in on the weekend in the evening, big mistake if you are bringing a large family. There is normally at least a 30 min wait for a table during high traffic time. Thankfully for me the counter for lonely folks was open.

Kura 2

So here is how it works:

1.       Wait for one of the various items to pass by you on the conveyor belt.

Kura 3

2.       Pick up anything that catches your fancy.

Kura 4

3.       Enjoy whatever you grabbed!

Kura 5

If there is nothing on the conveyor belt that you like, just utilize the touch screen to order anything on the menu and it will come sailing by in a few minutes. My top three favorite sushi’s are: Inari, Ebi Avocado, and Hamburger. (Definately not traditional sushi)

Kura 7

True with fast food and internet dating, the photograph over flatters reality. But it still tastes good!

Kura 6

If you are able to wait long enough for a table you get to play a game… for every five plates you turn in you get a chance to win a prize. A roulette will spin on the touch menu. If you win, a small and crappy capsule toy will pop out.  But as you can clearly read, counter seats are unable to play.

Kura 8

It’s not all Japanese fish food. For dessert you can finish up with a nice slice of cake. Which by the way, is not a lie.

Kura 9

(Hey, I like Hot Pockets!)

Restaurant review Sagamiya

For a quick snack, protein and cholesterol boost; I like to go down to the Yakitori stand “Sagamiya.” It is located in downtown Yokosuka across the street from T.G.I. Fridays. The outdoor stand is on a small side ally that makes you feel shady eating outdoor meat in between the downtown buildings.

Sagamiya 1

I like to call this place “Trogdor Yakitori”. Why Trogdor?

Watch out peasants! It’s delicious (oishii)!

Sagamiya 4

This is how it works…

And this is the result…

Sagamiya 7

Sagamiya is a good stop for a quick, warm, and easy snack. Sure it isn’t a full meal and the cuts of meat sound dubious (Chicken ball?? What the hell is that?!), but I like it. Burninate on!

Restaurant review Akaoni (Photo post)

Akaoni (Japanese for a mythical red devil) is the newest Japanese buffet in Yokosuka. It is located on the 6th floor of the same building with All Days 24 hour Diner, right past pepper lunch and Mr. Donut in Downtown. I came across the joint by the big sign on the sidewalk.

 Akaoni sidewalk sign

This sign was big and had the right kind of food photos that made me craved them. So we went upstairs up 6 floors and were greeted by the double glass doors to the lobby.

Glass doors to the lobby

The lobby was decorated with many striking Japanese flower arrangements. The flowers are for the stores new opening.

The was no wait, in fact there was a only a few groups of people there. But the room looked like it could serve 150-225 people. The restaurant was very clean. I could tell it was new. We were seated and the young waitress clicked on the gas. The grill and boiling pot of water built right into the table came to life.

And with that, the time for us had started (You can get all you can eat for 60 or 90 minutes in this restaurant). So we dashed to load our trays and sample the variety. The sign boasting 100 different items was right. The variety was awesome.  Many different kinds of fresh fruits and veggies, along with a freezer wall of meat a soup and curry station, a salad bar, ice cream freezer, a cake stand, and of course a chocolate fountain.

(Note: I was not allowed to take photos of the things not on my table.)

Meat on the grill

The grill was hot and the food cooked quickly. Good thing too with only 60 minutes to do damage.

The food was very good. And the best think is that you can make it how you like; well-done, raw, grilled, boiled, spiced, or plain.

Over all we enjoyed the food and the restaurant and would recommend our friends to go with us. Welcome to Yokosuka!

Science ponders 'zombie attack' Copy from LJ article from BBC NEWS

An actual 'mathematical exercise' by Canadian researchers. Utilizing mathematics and basic science to alleviate an undead problem can be effective and fun! (see Army of Darkness) Mathematics has many more practical uses than you might think. Aside from calculating the likelihood that Suzy will pull a green marble out of a bag, or punching in 58008 in an upside-down calculator, but also how to modify a 1973 Oldsmobile to chop up a wave of walking dead like a bell pepper.
I think it is appropriate that the pending zombie Apocalypse be looked at mathematically. 32,042,659 to 1 is only a number and nothing to be afraid of. -What, you're afraid of a number besides 13?! Pansy.
Here are some more numbers for you to calculate...
A revolver can hold 6 shots
A Shotgun can hold 9 shells
A handgun can hold 16 rounds
A zombie can hold 0 weapons (normally)

The final paper offers the advice this "It's imperative that zombies are dealt with quickly or else..." But you already knew that. So break out the slide-rule and the programmable calculator and remember Pythagorean zombie theorem; Cleverness2 + Resources2 = Survival2

Where I was on 09/11/2001

(This is a post written on 09/11/2009)

Today is the 8th anniversary of the Terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. And of course the saying “you will always remember where you were when you first heard the news” is true. I remember, my story isn’t dramatic, but it did eventually change the shape of my life and my daily actions.

I was in high school. I was an awkward teenager with a shell as thick as the line for meningitis vaccinations. I was a junior in Mrs. Hunt’s morning art class. I love art, I made it my own private world. But I did not enjoy the class, in fact, it was my least favorite class. I loved listing to the local Clear Channel conglomerate for classic rock, KKRW 93.7 The Arrow. The morning show team, Dean and Rog, was my favorite. The teacher played CDs and radio, picked by the students, during drawing assignment. It was my day to pick. Well, I was the strange kid who brought in “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” but not that day. That early morning class I wanted to hear Dean and Rog’s signature bit, the birthday scam: a prank phone call preformed by request on people’s birthday. So she tuned in the shoty old radio with one broken speaker...

…That’s when I heard. The details at that time were not clear, A plane had crashed into a building. I wasn’t sure what was happening, nobody in that room did. It was the start of the attack, and shortly after that… gone, they were both gone.

Hello world!

I am blogging. You might be thinking that “the kid who got 'D's in English and hated essays is now writing voluntarily. What the crap?!” Well Einstein failed grade school math, so maybe there is hope for me to coherently write about meaningless stuff. I'll probably just cop out and post a bunch of photos.
